By being proactive, you'll have the best chance to address the issue before it worsens and makes your car unsafe to drive. Common Symptoms of Suspension Trouble

A classic sign of suspension failure is that your vehicle begins bouncing excessively whenever you hit any little bump in the road. If you hear clunking noises when you hit bumps, then you could be dealing with a failing spring. With a bad spring, you may notice your car sitting lower in the pertinent corner.

You can conduct a simple test to help you figure out whether your suspension is in bad shape. First, make sure your car is safely parked and not at risk of rolling. Then go to the front of the car, press down firmly on the front end, rock it two times, and then release. Next, go around back and do the exact same thing on the rear. When you let go, your car shouldn't rock on its own any more than three times. But if it does continue rocking beyond this amount, then it'll be best to get to the shop for a suspension inspection.

In some instances, signs of suspension trouble arise during the braking process. If your suspension is faulty, then you may notice that your vehicle is taking more time to completely stop after you've begun braking. Also, with a bad suspension, it can feel like your car is lunging forward at a downward angle when you hit the brakes.

There are a couple of other common symptoms of suspension failure to be mindful of. If you see that oil has started leaking out onto the outer surface of your shocks, then it's likely time for replacement. And if it seems like your vehicle is drifting when you take corners, then a faulty suspension could be the reason.
